Considerações sobre a organização industrial da Amazônia

O presente trabalho procura analisar a organização espacial da indústria na Amazônia Legal, tomando como referências principais a magnitude (tamanho) segundo o Valor da Transformação Industrial (VTI) ou Pessoal Ocupado (PO) e a composição do setor industrial (Distribuição dos gêneros segundo uma tipologia baseada num indicador de especialização/ diversificação, que permite identificar desde municípios fortemente monoindustriais até aqueles diversificados).

Para a seleção dos municípios, onde a atividade industrial era expressiva, optou-se por duas escalas espaciais de atuação: a nacional/planetária, onde aparecem 20 municípios, incluídos entre os 500 maiores do País, segundo o VTI, e a regional/local, com 33 municípios, incluídos entre aqueles que apresentaram PO igual ou superior a 500 empregados, segundo o Censo Industrial de 1985.

Preocupou-se, também, em identificar os espaços industriais, para futura análise de seus respectivos padrões, além das implicações decorrentes do novo modelo industrial vigente, numa fronteira de recursos de seus rebatimentos nos aspectos social, ambiental e cultural.

This paper deals with the spatial organization of manufacturing industry in the Amazon Region (Amazônia Legal), as regards both size and composition of the sector. Size was measured using a proxy of value added (VTI) as well as the total number of employees. An index of specialization/diversification was built, based on the sectoral distribution of plats, identifying municipalities ranging from highly specialized (mono-industrial) centers to diversified centers.

The sample selected for the study was taken considering two spatial scales: at the national/world level. the 20 municipalities included in the 500 largest manufacturing centers in Brazil according to the proxy for value added. At the local/regional level, on the other hand, the selection was based on the size of the labor force, and the 33 municipalities which registered over 500 employees in the 1985 Manufacturing Census.

One other contribution of this paper is the identification of industrial spaces. for future evaluation of their industrial patterns and of the implications of the new industrial model occurring in a resource frontier, and its social, environmental and cultural repercussions.
