Friedrich Ratzel hoje : a alteridade de uma geografia

Este trabalho focaliza a obra de Ratzel, geógrafo do final do século XIX, a partir da reflexão crítica sobre a possibilidade de se compreender um autor do século passado, bem como da revisão do lugar que sua obra acabou por ocupar na memória da Geografia por aqueles que se pouparam a essa reflexão. Ao expor a abrangência de temas com que o geógrafo se ocupou, o trabalho revela quão redutoras são as leituras que apenas relacionam Ratzel ao determinismo geográfico e à estratégia imperial bismarckiana.

This paper is concerned to the work of Ratzel, a geographer of the end of the XIX. Century, from a critical approach about the possibility to understand an author of the past century, as well from a review of the place that his work finally occupied in the geography's memoir. Considering the extension of the subjects that the Geographer had dealt with, this paper reveals how reducing are the readings that only relate Ratzel with the geographic determinism and with the bismarckian imperialist strategy.
