Abstract

Following the publication of his monograph titled "Geography of Transport in Brazil",

the author, Engineer Moacir F Silva presents in this article its forth chapter, "Production"

Initially he explains that Brazil was economically born with the extractive industry (gathering of Brazil wood and hunting of alive animals), passing then to agriculture and simultaneously to cattle breeding

He studies, supported in well known authors, the Brazil wood cycle; the sugar cycle, during which began the slavery of negers who came from Africa, and that caused the richness of Baía and Pernambuco; the pastoral cycle, where you remark the called leather pe1iod, on account of the importance of this product in the native's life; the cycle of gold, which presents two aspects: wash gold and vein gold, this last one principally noted in Minas Gerais; the cycle of diamant, concentric to the gold one and establishing with it the cycle known as mineration cycle; coffee cycle, very important, having made the fortune of Rio de Janeiro and S.Paulo and which is divided in: slavery coffee and capitalist coffee this last. one developed itself during the republican government; the caothchouc cycle, localized in the Amazon valley and explored by the nord east people; the cycle of the mate, situated in meridional Brazil and in the south of Mato Grosso; the cotton cycle, which began at nordeast and then in S.Paulo; finaly the authot studies the cycle of industry, which was born at the XIXth century and that presently attains a great progress.

The author proves that schematicaly represented by cycles of changeble diameters according to their historical lasting and to the geographical space they occupe, one remarks that these cycles show themselves in superposition, concentric or secant, nearly all simultaneous

He examines then the geo-economic and commercial zones, dividing them in north, center and south, or yet in extreme south, south, center, north and extreme north, describing the usual types of nourishment which he declares very deficient according to a normal nourishment portion which should ben standard to our ambient

The author ends his study declaring impossible the adoption of a convenable nourishment regimen, while the Iarge regions of the country do not possess all the necessary transport ts to realize a rapid and complete distribution of the different kind of nourishment
