Resumo

The author, engineer of the National Departement of Mineral Production and professor at the Army Technic School, studies in the present article the influence of gold upon life in the interior of Brazil •

Comparing social repercussion of gold mining in states of large population and stable life as those of Minas Gerais and Paraná, one remaiks the subsistent relation between mining at large scale and any other great industry, while gold gathering interesses just the least part of population which happens to be professional mining people.

In regions where little ago cattle b1eeding was the only economic fondation of life, as in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, ours money depreciation caused the rising of an industry at small scale and presently we assist to the formation of a new geration of mineralizers

The patriarchal type of life, the existence of some money in the place, allowed the transformation to which we assist and where the new mineralizers are 'the same ancient cattle breeders

The extreme north on the contrary, insufficiently peopled and with large virgin regions, assists to the birth of a mining peliod that ressembles to the one of Minas Gerais during the colonial period

Populations of millions men desert agricultural lands toward the zones of gold, and once there, as happens to the diamant seekers, are obliged by the geographical conditions of the land, to elect gold as their only receipt somce Instability is the characteristic of mining lands, where populations 1ise, grow and desappear with an astonishing rapidity

The author, Who as engineer of the National Departement of Mineral Production, studied the region from Piriá to Turi-Assú, in the states of Pará and Maranhão, illustrates his exposal with partial maps of the region, imputing great part of the dlfficulties yet to vanquish to the lands Which are extremely divided

Some villages as inglês and Alegre born as consequence of gold seeking, successed in subsisting, and probably on account of theil favourable situation will grow and in the future acquine a stable or permanent character
