Informe preliminar sobre características gerais da população, segundo caminhos migratórios : Estado do Rio de Janeiro em 1974-75 : áreas metropolitana, urbana e rural não metropolitana

Abstract:

The main purpose of this article is to achieve a profile of the socio-demographic characteristics of migrants in the state of Rio de Janeiro, by means of data from the 1974-75 field survey conducted by the National Study on Family Expenditure (Estudo Nacional da Despesa Familiar – ENDEF). It also aims at comparing data compiled by ENDEF With those the Census. Based on the ENDEF data, different types of migrants can be identified.

Given the preliminary character of the data and considering that many of them are going through statistical consistency tests, it is impossible to deepen the analyses. Hence, the paper is limited to the description of the socio-demographic profile of the ENDEF migrant, since the characteristics of other types of migrants are not available at the moment.

The first part consists of an analysis of the flows for each type of migrant (interstate migrant, return migrant, migrant with a change of intrastate domiciliary situation in the last move, direct intrastate migrant and ENDEF migrant) and of the volume and direction of these flows (metropolitan, urban non metropolitan or rural non metropolitan).

Afterwards, the socio-demographic. characteristics of the ENDEF migrant are analyzed, according to some variables such as age, sex, marital status, education, period of residence (in the usual place of residence and in the place of origin), previous domicile situation (urban or rural), etc.
